Bryan Tilaar Talk About Martha Tilaar Group’s Sustainability Program at The Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Achieving SDGs Discussion
On February 8, PPM School of Management
held a discussion with the theme Sustainable Entrepreneurship in
Achieving SDGs. For this event, PPM School of Management presented three
speakers, Bryan Tilaar from Martha Tilaar Group, Dani Wildan from Bank
Rakyat Indonesia, and Dr. Theresa Chihine from Yale University, US.
In
the opening speech, Director of PPM Management, Pepey Riawati Kurnia,
said this discussion aims to give insights about sustainable business to
achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She added, according
to SDGs report 63% of SDGs indicators in Indonesia are possible to
reach, with a note, hard work from all sides is still needed.
Sustainable
entrepreneurship has the same concept as eco or environmental
entrepreneurship concept, in which the point is to give attention to
ecological and social boundaries. Sustainable entrepreneurship focuses
on the community, stakeholders, and nature preservation, so it can
create new products and services that give economic or non-economic
benefits to individuals or communities that will become the foundation
to reach long-term wealth.
In his speech, Bryan
Tilaar, President Director of PT Martina Berto Tbk said that Martha
Tilaar Group supports sustainable entrepreneurship. This is not just
because the Founder of the company, DR.(H.C) Martha Tilaar, is one of
the founder participants of the UN Global Compact (SDGs Pioneer), but
also because Martha Tilaar Group already runs its business based on
ethics that expected not detrimental various parties, including
environment, which aligned to SDGs values.
Some
things done by Martha Tilaar Group to preserve the environment are by
enforcing a water filter system to produce water waste since the
beginning and developing a new Kampoeng Djamoe Organik (KaDO) in
Sukabumi. Not standing, Martha Tilaar Group also involve in some CSR
programs related to natural preservation, one of which is mangrove tree
planting in Ayah Beach, Gombong.
Based on
research, an entrepreneur who runs a sustainable business will become a
valid agent of change. But what are the benefits of running it? Here are
some of the good opportunities that might happen:
- To increase the company’s performance by reducing negative impacts on the environment
- To increase product reputation
- To increase the company’s image
- To increase customers loyalty
- To increase investment opportunity
So, eventually, some of those benefits mentioned above will boost sustainable profit for the company.
