October becomes one special month for Martha Tilaar
Group, because this is the first time we involved in collaboration with
Gandrung Sewu. Gandrung Sewu is an iconic annual festival in Banyuwangi,
East Java, which presents colosal dancing called Gandrung. Since 2012,
this dance festival that involving more than thousand (Sewu) dancers
always held in Marina Boom beach.
From the history, Gandrung is
known as traditional dance to express gratitude of Banyuwangi people for
the harvest season that accompanied by traditional music instrument,
Gamelan Osing. But now, at the 8th Gandrung Sewu Festival the theme that
chosen was Panji Panji Sunangkoro. It tells about the strike of Rumpeg
Jagopati soldiers againts the Dutch at the colonialism era.
It’s
an honor for Martha Tilaar Group because one of its brands, Sariayu,
got the opportunity and trust from regional goverment and the committee
to support this the festival as the official makeup partner. Not just to
supply the products, but we also thankful for the opoprtunity to train
150 local makeup artists from Banyuwangi who in charge to beautify 1.400
performers in Gandrung Sewu (12/10). Through this activity, we hope
that Martha Tilaar Group can give significant contribution for Indonesia
culture preservation and women empowerment until the following years.
